Are you a Yukon non-profit organization looking for volunteers?

Our new on-line database allows organizations to post ALL of their volunteer opportunities. There are no limits.

1st step: Fill out NGO Registration Form, below. 2nd step: Wait for your username and password. Upon receipt of both, you will be able to log-in and post your volunteer opportunities, directly.

(It may take up to 48 hrs for volunteer opportunities to be added to the database because VY will need to review new postings to ensure that spam messages aren't accidentally posted to the database. Final approval of all postings rests with VY.)

National Volunteer Week

Celebrating the Passion, Action, and Impact of Yukon Volunteers!

April 15 to April 21, it is the National Volunteer Week. This year again Volunteer Yukon (VY) can help you to recognize your volunteers.

Free 'start-up' volunteer recognition gift packages available for VY members:

VY can provide your organization with free volunteer recognition start-up packages. The package consists of a paper gift bag (roughly 8" x 11" x 4"), a poster, thank-you card, ballpoint pen, and wildflower seed packet.

If your non-profit would like start-up packages, please contact Bruno Bourdache at (867) 456-4304, or drop by the office at 305 Wood St., Whitehorse, Yukon.

The packages are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Photo Contest: Volunteer Yukon is looking for photos!

VOLUNTEERS: PASSION, ACTION, IMPACT: Do you have photos of volunteers who show passion, take action and make an impact in your community? Send us your best photo! May 2011 Call for Applications: NGOtf Allocations Committee Recommendations

We received 11 applications from 11 separate organizations. Then two applicants merged their applications, so we ended up with 10 proposals.

The total ask for this round of funding alone was in excess of 40K. We had a total of $22,500 to allocate for this round (25K less 10% admin).

Procedure: The Allocations Committee each took between 3 applications to examine in depth and present to the rest of the committee. Two sessions were necessary to allow for adequate discussion of each application. Fileholders (committee members) were encouraged to contact the organization representatives if they had questions about the application.

The applications came from diverse sectors and from several communities – including Whitehorse and Haines Junction.

The projects that the Allocations Committee and Volunteer Yukon put forward for funding approval are as follows:

I want to commend you on arranging the workshop "Risk Management for Nonprofits:". The speaker, David Harley, from Imagine Canada, was fantastic. He certainly knew his subject, presented it with enthusiasm and energy and kept participants very focused. The folder each participant received contains a wealthy of information presented in a very user friendly way. I request a copy to put into a board library and will encourage members to use it.

As you know, I wear many " board hats', have attended many workshops over many years. This presentation is one of the most inspiring I have ever attended.

I would like to thank Volunteer Bénévoles Yukon for its participation in CJUC's weekly programming.

The podcast you produce is of the highest quality and the subjects covered are interesting, informative and helpful. Thanks for allowing CJUC to broadcast this fine production.

You may not realize that our CRTC licence requires us to broadcast locally produced spoken work content. The podcast you produce and program on CJUC goes a long way to helping us realize our mandate.

We would also like to thank you for helping to develop a “user manual” for our Openbroadcaster program and posting our community volunteer requests on your mail list. The response we get when we post with you is always gratifying.

We hope Volunteer Bénévoles Yukon will continue to consider CJUC a resource to expand its voice in the community of Whitehorse and feel free to contact us with any assistance you might need with your program or questions in developing further programming.

Thanks so much Gael. this looks good. We could use this for the volunteer supervisor's final evaluation of the student at the end of the term. Looks straight forward and quick to complete.

By the way, I took my student to meet Tracy at the Historical Society yesterday and it went very well. I think it's a great opportunity for the student to learn a lot in a really supportive environment. Thanks for that suggestion. This week we're introducing the 4 of them to Mae Bachur, the Salvation Army kitchen and thrift shop, the Food Bank, Kwanlin Dun Health Centre and Sundog 1st Nations art studio this week.

The more variety we can give them, the better is their skill development and exposure to the diversity of what's out there. If you have any more opportunities we could expose our group to, that would be appreciated.

Keep up the good work, you guys! What you do really improves the quality of life for us all.

60. Canada World Youth Youth Volunteers

Volunteer Yukon supports national youth volunteer programs during their rotations in Whitehorse. Youth volunteers are placed with local NGOs and actively participate in the community.

Canadian and Ukrainian interns from Canada World Youth have worked with VY to promote volunteerism and local NGO activities.

Director Liability Protection for NGOs

Volunteer Canada strongly recommends that organizations consider the need to carry Directors and Officers Liability Insurance (DOLI).

In order to assist organizations with DOLI, Volunteer Canada has partnered with Aon Reed Stenhouse Inc. to offer an affordable policy to all non-profit organizations who join Volunteer Canada (with few exceptions).

By joining Volunteer Canada, all participants are subject to significant premium savings. Those organizations whose operation budgets/revenue are under $5,000,000 per year have pre-set costs as outlined in the chart and are required to complete a simple two-page application form.

Organizations with operating budgets/revenue that exceed $5,000,000 per year are also subject to significant premium savings; please note that the premium is not predetermined and in order to provide a quote, completion of an extended application is required. NGO Service Center Feasibility Study

Volunteer Bénévoles Yukon recently conducted a research project in partnership with Yukon Government (Community Development Fund) to look at various ways to help Yukon non-profit organizations in the communities and in Whitehorse sustain their services, and maximize human, financial and fixed capital resources such as office space.
